In the present study for the first time, recovery of 1-ethyl-2-methylbenzene from aqueous solution was investigated by pervaporation process with polymeric membranes containing ethylene propylene diene monomer (EPDM), poly dimethylsiloxane (PDMS), poly vinylidenefluoride (PVDF) and poly ether-block-amide (PEBA). After preparation of membranes by solution casting method, the membranes were applied in pervaporation experiments at ambient temperature to determine several parameters such as flux, separation factor and pervaporation separation index (PSI). Scanning electron microscopy (SEM), contact angle, mechanical resistance and degree of swelling analyses were performed to characterize the prepared membranes. SEM images showed a dense and symmetrical morphology in regard to the prepared membranes. Results of contact angle analysis indicated that PDMS and EPDM membranes were completely hydrophobic in comparison with the other prepared membranes. Percent of swelling for all membranes was rather low and all of them swelled lower than 3.5%; however, swelling value for PVDF membrane was approximately negligible (0.3%). EPDM membrane with PSI value of of 653 kg/m(2).h and separation factor of 3558, showed a superior performance in pervaporation process compared to the other prepared membranes; however, this membrane presented lower mechanical strength than the other membranes. PVDF membrane showed better results in terms of mechanical strength compared to the other membranes. Considering pervaporation separation index of 248 kg/m(2).h and separation factor of 480, which were better than that of PDMS and PEBA membranes, PVDF showed poor performance in PV process compared with EPDM membrane. According to the higher mechanical strength and slight willingness of PVDF membrane to swelling in contact with aqueous feed, performance enhancement of this membrane in the pervaporation process can greatly surpass its position in removing 1-ethyl-2-methylbenzene from contaminated water.

URB937, a brain-impermeant FAAH inhibitor, suppressed paclitaxel-induced allodynia through a CB1 mechanism only. 5-[4-(4-cyano-1-butyn-1-yl)phenyl]-1-(2,4-dichlorophenyl)-N-(1,1-dioxido-4-thiomorpholinyl)-4-methyl-1H-pyrazole-3-carboxannide (AM6545), a peripherally restricted CB 1 antagonist, fully reversed the antiallodynic efficacy of N-cyclohexyl-carbannic acid, 3′-(anninocarbonyl)-6-hydroxy[1,1′- biphenyl]-3-yl ester (URB937) but only partially reversed that of URB597. Thus, URB937 suppressed paclitaxel-induced allodynia through a mechanism that was dependent upon peripheral CB1 receptor activation only. Antiallodynic effects of both FAAH inhibitors were reversed by N-(pi peridin-1-yI)-5-(4- iodophenyl)-1 -(2 ,4-d ichlorophenyl)-4methyl-1H-pyrazole-3-carboxannide (AM251). Antiallodynic effects of URB597, but not URB937, were reversed by 6-iodo-2-methyl-1-[2-(4-nnorpholinyl)ethyl]-1H-indol-3-yl](4-nnethoxyphenyl)nnethanone (AM630). Isobolographic analysis revealed synergistic interactions between morphine and either URB597 or URB937 in reducing paclitaxel-induced allodynia. A leftward shift in the dose-response curve of morphine antinociception was observed when morphine was coadministered with either URB597 or URB937, consistent with morphine sparing. However, neither URB937 nor URB597 enhanced morphine-induced deficits in colonic transit. Thus, our findings suggest that FAAH inhibition may represent a therapeutic avenue to reduce the overall amount of opioid needed for treating neuropathic pain with potential to reduce unwanted side effects that accompany opioid administration.

Measuring glucose in a convenient and economical manner is crucial for diabetes diagnostics and surveillance. Ongoing efforts are devoted to nonenzymatic sensors using functional nanomaterials. Drawbacks due to costly and cumbersome process, however, hamper the practicality. Here, we report the facile preparation of Cu/Ni bimetallic nanocatalyst toward glucose electrooxidation. Carboxylated multi walled carbon nanotubes were chemically grafted onto indium tin oxide glass via silanization reaction and amide coupling reaction, providing distinct nucleation sites for Cu/Ni bimetallic electrocatalyst prepared by in-situ succinct electrodeposition, which synthetically created a three-dimensional electron transfer network. The surface morphology and chemical constituents were characterized by scanning electron microscopy, transmission electron microscopy, X-ray energy dispersive spectroscopy, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, infrared spectroscopy and atomic force microscopy. The prepared electrocatalyst displayed ultrahigh electrochemical activity; the catalytic current density for glucose oxidation was found to be over 6.7 mA mM(-1) cm(-2). The linear response spanned three orders of magnitude of glucose concentration ranging from 1 mu M to 1 mu M. Analytical parameters such as accuracy, reproducibility, specificity and stability have also been validated. Importantly, we reveal that Ni plays a dominant role over Cu in electrocatalytic oxidation of glucose, thus bettering our understanding and strategy for nonenzymatic glucose sensor design. This study investigated the antioxidant capacity of fenugreek protein isolate and its improvement by Lc. lactis fermentation through bioactive peptides production and the effect of molecular weight variation on fenugreek fractions antioxidant activity. However, fenugreek fraction (F2) with MW 15-50kDa presented the highest activity instead of fraction (F1) with lower MW. Lc. lactis had the ability to degrade and convert fenugreek proteins into bioactive peptides that contribute positively in the improvement of antioxidant activity of FI and fractions. FI presents a significant antioxidant activity and thus, can be considered as a potential source of high added value natural antioxidants and may be employed as a functional food ingredient with good potential applications in food products.
