A copper(I)-mediated denitrogenative reaction has been successfully developed for the preparation of cyclic tetrapeptides. The key reactive intermediate, ketenimine, triggers intramol. cyclization through attack of the terminal amine group to generate an internal β-amino acid with an amidine linkage.
