Of the 45 N-alkyl- and N,N-dialkyl-3,4-dichlorobenzamides (I) prepared by usual methods and tested for pre- and post-emergence phytotoxicity against common weeds, N,N-di-sec-butyl-3,4-dichlorobenzamide (6 kg/ha) selectively inhibited the growth of Echinochloa crus-galli and Setaria glauca.
