A review. The only plant in the genus Aegle is bael, a slow-growing, resistant subtropical spiky tree. Family: Rutaceae (Citrus family). It’s also known as wood apple, Bengal quince, golden apple, Indian quince, holy fruit, and stone apple in English. In Sanskrit-Bilwa and in Hindi-Bael, bel.
