A novel transformation of primary amides RC(O)NH2 (R = Ph, thiophen-2-yl, Bu, cyclopropyl, etc.) to secondary amides RNHC(O)R1 (R1 = methyltrifluoromethyl, Et, Ph, etc.) promoted by hypervalent iodine reagents Ph(I)(OC(O)R1)2 was developed.
