N-Alkyl substituted 3-amino-4-chloro-benzenesulfonamides were important intermediates for preparing acid dyes and disperse dyes in peculiar field. The synthesis routes and their advantages and disadvantages of 4-chloro-3-aminobenzenesulfonamide and its N-alkyl substituted compounds were evaluated. Chlorosulfonic acid was replaced by thionyl chloride in the preparation of sulfonic acid chloride and industrial waste acid was reduced largely. Sodium sulfide reduction or iron powder reduction were instead by hydrogenation reduction, the yield was improved with energy saving and environmental protection.
