Thin-layer chromatog. and NMR, UV, and mass spectrometry revealed the new alkaloid, culantraramine (I), in Z. culantrillo stems, together with (+)-eudesmin, (-)-epieudesmin, hordenine, (-)-N-methyliscorydine, magnoflorine, candicine, skimmianine, synephrine, tembetarine, and a dihydroxydimethoxytetrahydroprotoberberine. Isolated from Z. coriaceum were (-)-N-methylisocorydine, dihydrochelerythrine, chelerythrine, N-methylcanadine, (±)-aegeline, and (±)-alfileramine (II).
