The resulting solution was heated to reflux for 20 min. Then it was cooled and concentrated under vacuum. The residue was diluted with 500 mL of H20, and then adjusted to pH 2 with HCl. The solid was collected by filtration and dried in an oven under reduced pressure. This resulted in 50 g (crude) of 5-chloro-2,6-dihydroxynicotinamide as a white solid.
