4-Bromo-N-isopropyl-N-(4-methoxy-2-methylphenyl)-3-methylsulfanylbenzenesulfonamide (565 mg; 1.27 mmol) and 2,2,2-trifluoroacetamide (215.6 mg; 1.91 mmol) dissolved in tetrahydrofuran (1.1 ml) are added slowly to 60% sodium hydride (45.8 mg; 1.14 mmol) suspended in tetrahydrofuran (2.8 ml) at 0-5 C., followed by addition of the solution of 1,3-dibromo-5,5-dimethylhydantoin (545.3 mg; 1.91 mmol) in tetrahydrofuran (1.13 ml). The medium is stirred for 2 hours at room temperature, hydrolyzed by addition of 10% citric acid solution and then extracted with ethyl acetate. The organic phases are combined, then washed with 25% sodium sulfite solution and then twice with saturated sodium chloride solution and dried (Na2SO4). The solvents are evaporated off. (0509) The crude product is chromatographed on silica gel (eluent: heptane/ethyl acetate, from 0 to 60% of ethyl acetate). The (E)-N-((2-bromo-5-(N-isopropyl-N-(4-methoxy-2-methylphenyl)sulfamoyl)phenyl)(methyl)-lambda4-sulfanylidene)-2,2,2-trifluoroacetamide (706 mg; 100%) is obtained in the form of a colorless oil with a compliant NMR.
